By Iman Bukhari, CEO of Canadian Cultural Mosaic Foundation I'm happy to share news of our new project - YYC Colours. This is a documentary that deals with racism within Calgary. This is yet another taboo topic that is not spoken about in our society. I have personally been working on this since last December and so far have spoken to about 40+ different individuals about their experiences of dealing with racism within the city. Most of them said, when they wanted to talk about the issue, they received a lot of negative feedback from people around them. I feel for these individuals. Being in that situation as a victim is hard enough without having others judge you. These victims told me most people around them deny racism exists and often blame them for causing the problem. I'm not sure how this could make any sense, to anyone really. Our documentary is expected to be finished soon and hopefully will be promoted and screened across the city, province and hopefully the nation. I personally have also applied for a $1,000 grant from the Arusha Centre (http://arusha.org/) to help with the documentary (we literally have $0 budget)! Hopefully, we can get the grant and finish the project very soon. We hope to do a lot of promotion with this project, hopefully partnering with many organizations. We hope to screen the film several times before releasing it online.
