This past weekend, Canadian Cultural Mosaic Foundation held a 2-day vigil (Saturday and Sunday) in Calgary to demonstrate solidarity and support for France. We had heard of the attacks in Beirut the day before and also took this opportunity to send our condolences to them as well... and also to all victims of terrorism.
Initially, we had been working with the French Expatriates Association in organizing the event. However, something very Canadian happened just a few hours into organizing the vigil. We had over 20 community, cultural, ethnic and religious organizations contact us saying they want to take part in the vigils and condemn these acts. Overall, we had over 400 people come out during the vigils on the weekend. These were everyday people from all walks of life, who came out in solidarity and also sent a strong message to the perpetrators, that you cannot divide humanity. The event itself became a multicultural healing effort from all. Click here to view the CBC article Click here to view the CTV coverage Click here to view the Global News coverage
